Husband’s Birthday- Bluegrass & Bourbon

August 10, 2017 By Holly 7 Comments Filed Under: Adult Parties, Bluegrass & Bourbon, Celebrate, Dinner Party, Home Decor, Milestone Birthday

When I first started planning my husband’s 35th birthday party, I told him I needed a theme. He gave me exactly zero ideas and I think he was afraid I was going to throw him a colorful kids party with balloons and streamers. It wasn’t until I gave him a list of ideas, including Bluegrass & Bourbon, that he got on board. With all of the parties I have thrown, adult parties- especially for guys, are always the hardest.

I was walking through the party aisles at Target but couldn’t find much that wasn’t geared towards children or weddings.  Then I happened to walk past Nate Berkus’ office supply line. The black and gold color theme was exactly what I was looking for. I also had a lot of fun re-purposing office supplies into party supplies.

Black and gold file folders were the perfect pattern, color, and texture to make a fun happy birthday banner. I later found these, which would have been even better, but they didn’t sell them in the store.

This pencil holder made the perfect silverware caddy, and a letter sorter becomes a napkin holder. A wood and gold monitor stand added an extra level and plates fit nicely underneath.

One of my favorite pieces was this stoneware letter tray with a beautiful black detailed border. It worked perfectly as a tray for desserts.

The bourbon bar was set up in the corner, and a brass tray held glasses.

Next to the bourbon cart was lemonade so non-bourbon drinkers could make a kentucky lemonade cocktail. I made drink stirrers that sat in a gold pencil cup, and this fabric letter tray held glasses.

The party was a lot of fun, and many of the office supplies have found new uses around our home.

Happy Planning,

This is a fantastic theme idea! I feel like husbands are so difficult when it comes to parties. I’m always looking for ideas. I know that his 30th is going to be a big one!
