Decorations: Easy Party Banners

May 5, 2011 By Holly 1 Comment Filed Under: Party Decorations

At elevencupcakes we are always trying think of new ways to decorate with a handmade touch.   Here are 3 banner ideas we thought we would share.

chalkboard bunting

Using cardboard triangles and chalkboard contact paper (ours is from amazon.com) we made a simple banner that can be used for any celebration. Our triangles measured 4 inches wide at the top by 6 inches long. On the backside of each pennant we attached a piece of scrapbook paper and tied them together one at a time. This way we can untie them and flip them over depending on the length of our message.

Our second banner idea was created using dollar store clothes line, clothespins, photos, scrapbook paper. Choosing 10 photographs was the hard part, everything else was simple.  We cut out 10-1 1/2 inch circles from scrapbook paper and then wrote out best wishes with one letter on each.  Using glue we attached our letters to the clothespins, hung up our pictures, and the banner was done!

accordion folded pinwheel birthday banner

The third banner we are featuring today  is made of accordion folded paper pinwheels. We learned how to make these pinwheels from a tutorial on Style Me Pretty.  Using paper in coordinating colors, but different patterns we made about 16 pinwheels ranging from 2 inches to 7inches in diameter.  We also cut out 13-2 1/2inch circles to write out the message “happy birthday” on.  Using a hole punch make two holes in every letter and pinwheel.  Punching the holes at different heights on the pinwheels adds a bit of whimsy to the way they lay making some hang higher than others.  Alternating pinwheels and letters we strung together our banner on some lovely twine from The Twinery. To give it a more pronounced “center” we put the largest pinwheel in the center.

Who hope these banners inspire you to make one of your own for your next celebration.

I think all 3 garlands are lovely. The pinwheel one is my favorite. Those state glasses on the mantel are a stylish touch of vintage.
