Wedding Planning: Save the Dates

Normally, I am not a big fan of Save the Dates. To be completely honest, they’ve always felt like one of those things the wedding industry invented. For the longest time, I assumed we’d skip them altogether and just send out invitations when the time came.

That all changed when I came across a Save the Date that did more than just announce a wedding date—it told the couple’s story. I loved the idea of using that space to give guests a glimpse into the journey that led up to the wedding, rather than just sharing logistics. Our story is a long one and definitely not simple. It includes long-distance dating, break-ups, unexpected twists, and even getting engaged while we technically weren’t dating at the time. With all of that history, it felt like the perfect opportunity to bring everyone up to speed before the invitations landed in their mailboxes.

Elizabeth Benjamin designed our Save the Dates, and she did an amazing job bringing the concept to life. My copywriting fiancé also stepped in to help polish the wording and make it stronger than what I originally wrote. This happens more often than I’d like to admit. We used our engagement photos, and main wedding colors of navy, teal, and pink, along with our logo (minus the tagline), to keep everything cohesive with the rest of our wedding details.

In the end, I’m so glad we went this route. The Save the Dates felt personal, meaningful, and uniquely us—and not just another wedding formality. I think they turned out great… though I’ll admit I might be just a little biased.
