Wedding Planning: Engagement Photos

A while ago, I came across an engagement session that had been done entirely in a studio. It immediately stuck with me. I loved how clean, intentional, and creative it felt—so different from the typical outdoor engagement photos. When I first started sharing the idea with people, though, I was met with more than a few puzzled looks. “Wait…. like JCPenney portraits?” questions.

But Ed and I knew we wanted something that truly felt like us. We weren’t looking for traditional or expected—we wanted playful, creative, and a little outside the box. The studio gave us the freedom to focus on movement, personality, and emotion without distractions, and it ended up being the perfect choice.

The incredibly talented Ian Christmann was our photographer, and he brought the whole vision to life effortlessly. What started as an idea quickly turned into an afternoon filled with spinning, jumping, dancing, laughing, and just being ourselves. The session felt less like a photoshoot and more like a memory in the making—and the photos turned out exactly as I had imagined, if not better. And they were perfect for our Save the Dates and Reception place cards.
