Colorful Wedding Party Details

One of the biggest “challenges” during wedding planning was balancing my love of color with my husband’s preference for a more classic, timeless look. While I gravitated toward bold details and playful patterns, he leaned firmly in the direction of traditional—meaning absolutely no polka dots. In the end, the bridal party (and the reception!) became the perfect place to strike a compromise that made us both happy.

BRIDESMAIDS

For the bridesmaids, I chose simple navy dresses and let each of them pick the style that suited them best. This approach not only kept the overall look cohesive but also allowed everyone to feel comfortable and confident. To bring in the color I was craving, I added a fun twist. Each bridesmaid chose her own color of heels. From there, I ordered bouquets to match each shoe color. This instantly added personality and a pop of color without overwhelming the look.

FLOWERS

Since I’m not much of a flower person, I kept my instructions to the florist very simple. The only direction I gave her was to create one bouquet in each chosen color. My bouquet, on the other hand, was entirely white and tied all of the colors together. Thankfully, she has incredible taste, and the flowers turned out even better than I imagined. The result was a beautiful rainbow of color that felt joyful and intentional while still staying polished and elegant.

GROOMSMEN

To coordinate with the bridesmaids, the groomsmen wore charcoal suits paired with navy gingham shirts and navy ties. This combination added subtle pattern and interest without feeling too busy. Ed stood out just enough in a white shirt with a navy gingham tie, which tied in perfectly with my white dress. Altogether, the bridal party struck the balance we were hoping for—colorful yet classic, playful yet refined—and proved that compromise can sometimes lead to the best design choices..
