Harvest Festival Block Party

When Redeemer City Church asked if I would throw their first Harvest Festival, I WAS IN. Just like their neighborhood picnic, they wanted to create a fun afternoon filled with games, prizes, crafts, food and music that the entire neighborhood would enjoy. Flyers were sent out to houses in the area and given to kids at neighboring schools. Overall it was a lot of fun to plan and a great way to kick off fall.

When guests first arrived they were greeted by church members and given a nametag, I also had canvas tote bags designed for the event.

GAMES

Games included a candy guess; where kids had to guess how many were in each jar and winners got to take home the candy, pumpkin punch; punch through one of the pumpkin cups to receive a prize, face painting. We also had a lollipop pull; choose a lollipop from the tower- if yours has a black mark at the bottom you win a prize, and bobbing for donuts; try to eat the entire donut without using your hands.

ACTIVITIES

There was also a craft table where kids could make lollipop ghosts and toilet paper pumpkins, as well as paint their own mini pumpkin.

FOOD AND DRINKS

There was no shortage of sweets with cookies, bars, brownies and donuts. Pumpkin donuts were packaged into small bags with the events logo sticker that kids could take home. We also served water and apple cider. I use these drink dispensers for every event and the fact that they are plastic is a double win.

COSTUME CONTEST

All of the kids who came in costumes were entered into a costume contest. Winners received themed baskets to take home- a movie night, pumpkin carving, and crafts.

DECORATIONS

I used burlap, hay bales, festive bunting, pumpkins, balloons, twine, and lots of fake leaves to bring fall into the event. Sometimes it takes DC a little longer to catch up with the season- it’s currently 89 degrees and the trees are still green :)
