Taste of DC: Dessert Contest
When guests first arrived, we welcomed them with a simple but fun task. Each person filled out a card sharing what dessert they brought and where it came from. This instantly sparked conversation and curiosity. Not only did this help everyone keep track of the desserts, but it also gave guests new places to add to their “must-try” list around the city. After completing their cards, guests cut their desserts into six to eight servings. Then they arranged them on display so everyone could admire the spread while enjoying dinner.

Meanwhile, the dessert table slowly became a focal point of the party. As people walked by, they stopped to read the cards. They also pointed out familiar bakeries, and make mental notes of what they wanted to try later. This simple setup built anticipation and made the dessert portion of the evening feel like a true event rather than an afterthought.

After dinner, we officially kicked off the dessert tasting. We encouraged everyone to sample multiple desserts and really take their time choosing a favorite before voting. The variety was impressive and made the decision surprisingly difficult. Desserts ranged from cupcakes and pie to cake, gelato, truffles, cake pops, and brownies. Because there was such a wide selection, everyone found something they loved, whether they preferred rich chocolate treats or lighter, fruit-filled options.
Finally, once all the votes were in, we announced the winners and handed out gift cards to some of the most popular restaurants around the city. While the prizes were fun, the real highlight was discovering new local favorites and sharing them with friends. In the end, the dessert contest brought everyone together, kept the energy high, and added a playful ending to an already memorable night. Overall, the Taste of DC Dinner Party was a huge success!

Happy Planning,
